Why join the Guardians?

As a member of the Guardians of Pauatahanui Inlet you belong to a group of people who value the Inlet and want to ensure that it is well cared for. Most of our members live within sight of the Inlet and know what a beautiful environment it provides. Recreational opportunities abound – walking, cycling, kayaking, windsurfing etc.  Porirua City Council is developing a walkway around the Inlet shoreline to offer a safe way to enjoy the Inlet close up, whether on foot, on a bike, alone, or with family and friends.

By belonging to the Guardians, you can contribute to a community voice that influences Council’s decisions on issues concerning the Inlet environment. You can also care for the Inlet in a practical way through joining a stream monitoring team, helping in the annual Inlet clean-up, or taking part in the three-yearly cockle survey. You would also be welcome as part of our educational initiatives with local schools and community education groups.

You can be the Inlet’s ‘eyes and ears’, looking out for any pollution and reporting it to Greater Wellington (24-hour number 0800 496 734) – as well as to the committee so we can follow up and make sure action has been taken. (Contact pauainlet@gmail.com or phone (04) 233 2557.)

Members receive regular newsletters, an annual report and, through the website, notes on discussons at committee meetings.
